MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – IBA Group, a company residing in the Hi-Tech Park in Minsk, has presented a system designed to monitor the state of infrastructure using computer vision, machine learning, and flying drones, representatives of the Hi-Tech Park told BelTA.

Monitoring is done in two steps. First, flying drones record videos. Second, the videos are analyzed automatically to detect defects on utility poles and along power lines.

The system’s ability to monitor energy industry infrastructure is being tested now. Trees and buildings near power lines are in the system’s scope as well. The system can also be used to monitor pipelines, buildings, railway infrastructure, and other spheres.

Nikolai Vlasov, IBA Group’s machine learning and artificial intelligence products manager, noted: “A computer can analyze a video much faster than a human being. Machine learning is used to accomplish several goals: correct identification of the object that needs to be analyzed, additional processing to separate the analyzed object from the rest of the environment (for instance, a metal pole needs to be separated from trees), defect analysis (rust or crumbling concrete poles).”

The international holding company IBA Group has been developing software for over 25 years. The company employs over 2,600 people. IBA Group implements projects in over 40 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, Australia, and Oceania. The customers include the central bank and ministries of Belarus, major gas and oil industry companies, energy companies, and other ones.
