MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) - A Belarusian delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov paid a working visit to Saudi Arabia on 17-18 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The key event of the visit was the first round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Belarus and Saudi Arabia in the history of bilateral relations.
“Evgeny Shestakov and his Saudi counterpart, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs and Acting Deputy Minister for Economy and Development Saud bin Mohammed Al-Sati, discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in trade and economy, investment, tourism, humanitarian and other areas, the current state and prospects of the Belarusian-Saudi political dialogue, discussed the multilateral and regional agenda,” the press service of the ministry said.
The parties underlined mutual interest in resuming the whole range of bilateral contacts based on the development of economic cooperation.
A number of bilateral talks were held during the visit. Evgeny Shestakov and Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji discussed the schedule of upcoming bilateral events and the steps to intensify Belarusian-Saudi cooperation.
Development of trade, economic and investment cooperation was discussed during a meeting with Special Representative of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Kingdom Tariq Abdel Hadi Al-Qahtani. The talks confirmed mutual interest in developing cooperation in the manufacturing sector, agriculture and food supplies, mining, banking and investment. The parties agreed to promote direct interaction between the business communities of the two countries, exchange information, and encourage participation in exhibitions in their countries.
The Belarusian diplomat also discussed ways of stimulating mutual tourist flows between Belarus and Saudi Arabia with Deputy Minister of Tourism Sultan Al Musallam.
