Belarusian companies reach agreements worth $17m at business forum in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, 25 November (BelTA) – Belarusian enterprises reached agreements worth $17 million at a business forum in Pakistan, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mikhail Myatlikov told journalists on the sidelines of the Belarus-Pakistan business forum in Islamabad, BelTA has learned.

As part of the visit of the Belarusian head of state to Pakistan, a large business delegation from Belarus consisting of more than 40 representatives of domestic enterprises arrived in Islamabad. Eight documents worth cumulatively more than $17 million are ready for signing. The negotiations will last for two days, so I think more documents and protocols of intent will be signed,” said Mikhail Myatlikov.

According to him, the parties admitted that they still need to learn more about each other. Some areas of cooperation have already become traditional, for example, mechanical engineering and agriculture, but it is necessary to explore more avenues of interaction. “These include pharmaceuticals, veterinary drugs, light industry. We have already agreed that a business delegation from Pakistan will visit our new exhibition “My Belarus” (the visit is planned for January), and will take part in Belagro. And we also consider the participation of our companies in a number of exhibitions in Pakistan in order to diversify mutual supplies,” said the chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mikhail Myatlikov added that in 2023 Belarusian exports to Pakistan increased by 150% compared to 2022. This year, growth continued: in H1 it rose by 30% year-on-year. “The growth of our exports is truly impressive. In six months, exports exceeded $17 million,” he cited the figures.

The bilateral trade approached $50 million in 2023. The president of Belarus believes that the two countries can do much better. In August, at a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Belarusian head of state emphasized that the parties agreed to “re-examine and restart relations in order  bring them to an even higher level”.

“You will agree that the trade that high-tech Belarus has with a country of more than 200 million people [like Pakistan], is very small. Therefore, we need to deepen and diversify our trade,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.
