Belarusian BelAZ to help build Pakistan-China economic corridor

ZHODINO, 12 August (BelTA) – Capabilities of the Belarusian automobile engineering company Belarusian Autoworks (BelAZ trademark) can be used to build an economic corridor between Pakistan and China. The statement was made by Pakistani Minister of Information, Broadcasting, and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid when Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif visited the Belarusian enterprise on 12 August, BelTA has learned.

Pervaiz Rashid said: “Great business opportunities exist between Belarus and Pakistan. The economic corridor between Pakistan and China is being actively developed. Capabilities of enterprises like BelAZ can come in handy as part of the project.” In his words, the Belarusian enterprise can participate in projects like the construction of motorways and communications. “We are confident that it is not the last visit of ours to BelAZ. The entire delegation will keep the memory of the visit for a long time. I think it will be a good foundation for the development of further cooperation,” stressed Pervaiz Rashid. He added that the gigantic BelAZ truck able to carry 450 tonnes of cargo was most impressive.

BelAZ First Deputy Director General Oleg Stepuk explained that it was the first visit of the Pakistan prime minister to the enterprise. “But we have already welcomed delegations from Pakistan. A short while ago the Pakistani industry minister visited BelAZ and we could demonstrate our entire manufacturing division to him. I think we have great prospects for cooperation with this country,” he said.

According to Oleg Stepuk, BelAZ specialists are in negotiations with Pakistani mining companies. “We offer comprehensive solutions to our clients. In addition to transporting coal mass we offer solutions for its escalation. Apart from that, we offer services of our research institutes such as the surveying and extraction of mineral resources. The cooperation spectrum is very broad,” he stated.

BelAZ shipped a number of mine dump trucks with the carrying capacity of 30 tonnes to Pakistan in 2008. Since then no BelAZ products have been shipped to the country.

Zhodino-based Belarusian Autoworks (BelAZ trademark) was founded in September 1948. In 2010 BelAZ was reincorporated into a public joint stock company (OAO). In September 2012 BelAZ became the managing company of BelAZ Holding. BelAZ is the world’s top manufacturer of mine dump trucks with a large carrying capacity and an extremely large carrying capacity as well as other heavy transport equipment used by the mining industry and the civil engineering industry. Since its inception the company has designed over 500 modifications of mine dump trucks with the carrying capacity of 27-450 tonnes. The company has made over 136,000 mine dump trucks and sold them to over 70 countries.
