Belarus up to 44th in Global Food Security Index 2015

MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – Belarus climbed up three positions to place 44th among 109 countries in the Global Food Security Index 2015. A year ago Belarus was 47th, BelTA informs.

Belarus scored 63.5 points to place 44th this year. Since 2012 when the first Global Food Security Index was published, Belarus has improved its figures by 1.9 points.

The Global Food Security Index is a global research and rating published by The Economist Intelligence Unit (the UK) in cooperation with DuPont (the United States).

Food security measures the country’s ability to secure its citizens with enough amount of wholesome and healthy food necessary for their active and healthy lifestyle. Food security is considered among the main indexes of the countries' social and economic development.

This index examines food security across three internationally established dimensions: food affordability and consumption; availability; its quality and safety. The index uses the data of international organizations and national institutions.
