Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania to launch container train between Klaipeda, Odessa

MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – The railway administrations of Belarus, Ukraine, and Lithuania as well as the Ukrainian company Containerships and the Lithuanian companies Intermodal Container Service and LG Cargo have signed an agreement on implementing a new project, which provides for launching container train service between Lithuania and Ukraine via Belarus, the Belarusian Railways press service told BelTA.

The document was signed in Odessa on 28 May. First Deputy Head of Belarusian Railways Igor Shilov signed the document on behalf of the Belarusian railway administration. The agreement is designed to encourage the use and further development of international freight transportation in containers by rail. As part of the agreement a Containership train will shuttle between Lithuania and Ukraine via Belarus along the route Klaipeda / Draugyste - Kena - Slovechno - Brovary / Odessa-Port.

The document expects the parties to work together to reconcile rates and coordinate marketing efforts as part of the project. Other parties are free to accede to the agreement.

The train will travel between Lithuania and Ukraine at least twice per week in line with the schedule approved by the signatories.
