MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) - Relations between Belarus and Turkmenistan have been developing successfully in the field of investment and education, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Belarus Nazarguly Shagulyev, BelTA has learned.
"Unlike other countries with which we have trade relations, the relations with Turkmenistan are diverse. We maintain investment cooperation, ties in education, and introduce information technologies," Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
He also noted: "We have very good and trusting relationships. I am very happy to meet you today. I would like these meetings to become regular.” The Speaker added that the leaders of the two countries also maintain good relations.
The meeting was also attended by Rector of the Belarusian National Technical University Boris Khrustalev. "He has very interesting proposals for improving the national personnel system,” Mikhail Myasnikovich noted. In addition, he emphasized that this year will mark the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. The parties also discussed the issues of the construction of the Garlyk mining and processing factory to produce potash fertilizers.
As was reported, Mikhail Myasnikovich was in Turkmenistan on a working visit on 24-28 March, during which the partners discussed the construction of the factory, and the establishment of the railway complex for rolling stock maintenance, and other issues. Overall, the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries has been developing positively. With regard to education, more than 9,300 citizens of Turkmenistan attend Belarusian universities, which accounts for half of all foreign students in the Republic of Belarus.
