MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) - Cooperation in finance between the Republic of Belarus and the Swiss Confederation was discussed during a working visit of Chairman of Belarus’ National Bank Pavel Kallaur and Director of the state institution Hi-Tech Park Administration Vsevolod Yanchevsky to Switzerland on 20-21 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Bank.
The Belarusian delegation met with the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank Thomas J. Jordan and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) Thomas Bauer to review in detail the current economic situation in the two countries, approaches to the monetary policy, development of financial markets. When discussing the prospects for digital transformation of the global and national economies, the parties exchanged views on topical issues of legal regulation of companies offering financial services on digital platforms (fintech companies).
The Belarusian delegation also visited the training center of the Swiss National Bank in Gerzensee. The parties discussed further expansion of bilateral cooperation in personnel training as part of the Swiss training program for employees of central (national) banks.
The agreement to organize the visit was reached in Minsk in November 2018 as head of Belarus’ National Bank Pavel Kallaur met with Margret Kiener Nellen, the head of the Finance Committee of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation, the chairperson of the Swiss parliamentary delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the co-chair of the Swiss parliamentary working group of friendship Switzerland-Belarus.
