Belarus suggests setting up vocational training center in Cuba

SOCHI, 18 October (BelTA) – Belarus suggests setting up a vocational training center in Cuba. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Belarus’ Education Minister Igor Karpenko and Cuban Minister of Higher Education Jose Ramon Saborido on the sidelines of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi on 17 October, BelTA has learned.

Cuba imports Belarusian equipment and needs specialists to operate it. Taking into account a big distance between the two countries, it is impractical to send Cuban specialists to Belarus for training. In this respect, Igor Karpenko suggested his Cuban counterpart to set up a vocational training center in Cuba with the help of Belarus. “We have modern educational and methodic complexes. We have a rich experience in industrial training and are ready to work with you in organizing such training in Cuba,” said the minister. Agreements can also be reached on retraining specialists.

Jose Ramon Saborido welcomed the idea. In his words, personnel training is among the top-priority areas that Belarus and Cuba should develop in the education sector.

Cuba invited Belarus to attend an international congress, which is expected to gather education ministers and university presidents from around the world in Havana in early 2018. Igor Karpenko stressed that this visit should be rich in concrete events. The minister suggested signing a program on the development of cooperation in education and conduct additional agreements between presidents of the Belarusian and Cuban universities on the areas of common interest, including scientific research.

The two ministers also discussed the prospects of cooperation in the youth policy and between children and youth public associations.
