Belarus studies Austria’s smart city practices

MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation paid a visit to Vienna to study the Austrian experience in the implementation of the smart city concept, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The knowledge acquired during the visit will be applied in Brest Oblast in the area of developing and advancing the green economy mechanisms (the use of renewable energy resources, transport mobility and landscaping) as part of the national green economy action plan and also in Brest as part of the SimbioCity concept.

Representatives of the Brest City Hall, the Brest Oblast Committee of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment met with representatives of such organizations as the Vienna smart city initiative and the project aimed at ensuring sustainable energy, mobility and housing services. They also visited a waste water treatment plant equipped with the latest technologies, The Spittelau waste incineration plant that processes nearly 250,000 tonnes of waste, and also TINA Vienna agency that coordinates all the initiatives and programs aimed at the implementation of the Vienna Smart City strategy.

The visit was organized with the support of the EU’s project MOST (Mobility Scheme for Targeted People-to-People-Contacts). The project is aimed at expanding contacts between the citizens of the EU and Belarus with a view of sharing the best practices, improving mutual understanding, and establishing and developing professional contacts.
