MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) - The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) has registered the first transaction for the sale of butter to Serbia, BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.
The trial batch made up 20 tonnes, and the buyer was a Serbian food importer, accredited at BUCE in November 2023. Prior to that, Serbian companies had purchased only sawn timber on the exchange trading. BUCE expects that after the entire scheme of butter purchase through the exchange platform is finalized, deliveries of this product to the Serbian market will become regular.
“In the past few months there has been an increased activity of foreign buyers at the exchange trading of dairy products. More than 4,400 tonnes of butter and almost 6,000 tonnes of milk powder were sold for export in October-December 2023. For comparison, in 2022 the total volume of exchange sales for these commodity items amounted to 660 tonnes and 1,200 tonnes respectively. Currently, the main market for domestic dairy products is Russia. Import transactions made by companies from China and Poland were also registered in 2023. Now Serbia has joined this list,” the BUCE press service said.
As of 1 December 2023, BUCE accredited 6,790 companies (non-residents of Belarus) from 70 countries, including three from Serbia. In January-November 2023, exports of agricultural products through the exchange platform increased by 23% compared to the same period in 2022. Butter and rapeseed oil, sugar, beet pulp and molasses were among the most demanded commodity items abroad.
