MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) - Belarus sees the development of industrial cooperation with Italy as promising, especially taking into account the market opportunities of the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna said at the conclusion of the first meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Italian commission on economic cooperation, BelTA has learned.
She noted that the meeting is a logical step in the development of the Belarusian-Italian dialogue in all areas: political, economic and humanitarian. “We have had a good foundation for the cooperation for a long time. But today is a new phase, a new page,” Alena Kupchyna said. Representatives of more than 30 companies gathered in Minsk.
The meeting reviewed the traditional areas of interaction and the development prospects. The delegations analyzed the existing barriers in mutual trade and discussed the measures to overcome them in order to facilitate the further development of trade relations between the two countries.
Considerable attention was paid to the promising areas of cooperation, including the creation of an Italian industrial district in Brest Oblast, development of interregional contacts, the use of European financial instruments to support joint investment projects, cooperation between national export insurance agencies.
Belarus views as promising the cooperation in the automobile industry and mechanical engineering, science and technology. Belarus also shows interest in intensifying cooperation with Finmeccanica S.p.A.
The parties agreed that the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission would take place in Italy in 2017.
After the meeting Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei talked to head of the Italian delegation, Italian Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Benedetto Della Vedova. The parties discussed the results of the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, current Belarusian-Italian relations, and the Minsk-Brussels cooperation.
