MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) – Belarus can be a gateway for Cuba to the Eurasian Economic Union, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba Antonio Luis Carricarte Corona told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“Belarusian equipment and technologies have always been in demand by Cuba’s sugar production industry and agricultural sector. Cuba is running a strategic development program until 2030; food security is one of the priorities of this program. We want, just like you, to ensure our food security,” said Antonio Carricarte.

According to him, about 70,000 Belarus-made tractors are in operation in Cuba. “We all know Belarusian equipment. Our farmers are asking for your tractors. We want to purchase new equipment and also to upgrade the existing machinery, to set up production facilities. We have everything in place to expand cooperation in this sector. We have a well-developed pharmaceutical industry. We want to jointly produce medicines both here and in Cuba. IT is another promising avenue of cooperation. Belarus, in our opinion, can serve as a gateway for Cuba to the Eurasian Economic Union,” the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba said.

The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus is hosting a meeting of the Cuban delegation with Belarusian MPs. A delegation of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce led by its president Antonio Carricarte arrived in Belarus on a working visit on 26 September. The events which have already taken place include a business forum and meetings with heads of enterprises. The parties reached agreements on cooperation in mechanical engineering, agriculture, pharmacology and IT. The visit will last through 30 September.
