Belarus seeks to boost food supplies to China using Eurasian Agroexpress project

NUR-SULTAN, 25 February (BelTA) – Belarus expects to increase food supplies to China following the launch of the Eurasian Agroexpress project, Ivan Smilgin, Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister, Director of the Department of Veterinary and Food Supervision of the Agriculture and Food Ministry, told journalists on 25 February, BelTA has learned.

On 24 February participants of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting in Nur-Sultan passed a resolution to support the implementation of Eurasian Agroexpress, the joint Eurasian Economic Union project for faster shipment of agricultural products in containers by rail and by multimodal means of transportation. This will be another channel to deliver the EAEU foodstuffs to China and Uzbekistan. Today, our products are mainly transported by Chinese companies; thus, this project will be very beneficial to us,” Ivan Smilgin said.

According to him, a working group will be put together to draft the basic principles and terms of commodity transportation for all the EAEU member countries.

The deputy minister also noted that over the past year, Belarus considerably grew its food supplies to the EAEU countries and China.
