MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to do everything necessary to strengthen ties with Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the press conference for the Russian regional mass media on 17 November.
“We are ready to do everything necessary for Kaliningrad Oblast. We do not view Kaliningrad Oblast as some foreign area. We do not lay any claims for Kaliningrad to be made part of Belarus. We do not need this. It is much easier to establish the relations which can be as close as those with the lands within the state,” the head of state said.
According to the head of state, there are no problems in the mutual relations between Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast. A big number of Belarusians live in that Russian region.
The President reminded the media of the proposals he made during his visit to Kaliningrad Oblast. “Kaliningrad Oblast can do a lot to stop importing food products,” he said, adding that he saw a lot of idle lands during his trip to the region. “Kaliningrad Oblast can make use of these lands in order to improve its food security. I think we will benefit from it as well,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
