MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) - The BelNPP made it possible to replace more than 9 billion cubic meters of natural gas, Belarusian Energy Minister Aleksei Kushnarenko said as he visited the peat plant Usyazh, BelTA learned from the Beltopgaz fuel and gas-supplying state-owned production association.
As part of the awareness raising event, Aleksei Kushnarenko spoke on the topic "Information hygiene: how not to become a victim of misinformation" and talked with the plant's workforce. The minister also touched on the development of the electric power and gas industries, the peat industry, and the importance of the Belarusian nuclear power plant for the country’s energy security.
The minister noted that the BelNPP project has become a good incentive for electricity consumption in the country. In 2023, this figure increased by 6.6% over 2022 and amounted to 41.1 billion kWh. The volume of electricity consumption by households for heating and hot water supply in the first half of 2024 rose to 542.6 million kWh.
He also said that since the connection of the BelNPP to the energy grid, it has generated about 34 billion kWh of electricity, which made it possible to replace more than 9 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
