SMOLENSK, 29 May (BelTA) - Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoi met with Acting Governor of Smolensk Oblast Vasily Anokhin as he paid a working visit to this Russian region, BelTA has learned.
The parties discussed import substitution, cooperation in the production of public transport, construction, agriculture, logistics, and also cross-border projects, including those to preserve the historical memory.
The ambassador invited the governor of Smolensk Oblast to visit Belarus. In turn, the acting governor invited Dmitry Krutoy and Belarusian artistic teams to take part in the Smolensk 1160th anniversary celebrations.
According to statistics, Smolensk Oblast was in the top three trading partners of Belarus among all Russian regions in 2022. The parties trade across a wide range of goods: trucks and tractors to petrochemistry and food products. The parties are implementing an action plan for cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and Smolensk Oblast for 2023-2025.
In Smolensk, the ambassador also visited Integrated Road Machines Plant, which is one of the three top producers of these products in Russia. The company widely uses chassis manufactured by MAZ and Belarusian machine tools. The Belarusian ambassador and the director of the plant discussed the ways of expanding the use of Belarusian spare parts, the geography of supplies to Russian regions and interaction on import substitution matters.
