MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia need to gradually shift from simple cooperation to the establishment of joint ventures in order to withstand in the competition against big transnational corporations, Russia’s Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov told a press conference in Minsk on 9 June, BelTA has learned.
“We need more powerful organizations in order to be a tougher competitor on the market,” the Ambassador noted.
According to Alexander Surikov, some ten years ago there was a goal to move from simple trade and economic relations between the two countries to their cooperation in various sectors. “These steps brought results. The trade soared from $15 billion to almost $44 billion. We still have an untapped potential for this cooperation integration. We need to move on: set up joint ventures, assembly plants, increase the production of component parts and so on,” the Ambassador said.
At the same time Alexander Surikov noted that today the economic and, in continuously growing degree, political space is occupied by transnational corporations with whom it is difficult to complete, even in the cooperation sense. “Cooperation is joint work of several companies, various legal entities. Integration processes are attracting greater attention today. It is necessary to move from cooperation to the development of a joint company that would be economically and financially stronger,” he noted.
“It is our main task, and we should start fulfilling it. There is no need in losing sovereignty. We need to set up joint companies and working plans that will improve today’s assortment of products,” Alexander Surikov said.
