MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) - Sergei Chizhik, First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, talked about new Union State programs in science during a press conference on 26 January, BelTA has learned.

“Belarusian scientists are heavily involved in Union State programs in science and technology. Several programs are currently underway but two dozen more are in the pipeline. We choose the most promising areas. By the way, for the first time we are considering implementing a Union State program in fundamental research. As a rule, we focus on applied research but without the appropriate groundwork in fundamental research we are limiting our prospects. So, we have already started to work on such a program. There are proposals from Russian partners,” Sergei Chizhik noted.

The Union State program "Additivity" aims to develop technologies, materials and equipment for 3D printing. Work in the space will be continued, too. “Together with our Russian colleagues we are working on a new program to explore the common social and humanitarian space. Belarus and Russia share the historical and cultural heritage. Today we see what what transformations are taking place in society, what social and political ramifications they bring. Therefore, together with our Russian colleagues we should create a good scientific foundation for cultivating a mature worldview, a mature view of our historical and cultural heritage and statehood,” NASB Chief Academic Secretary Andrei Ivanets said.

“Soon we will meet to discuss the Union State programs. We will also look into optimization, ways to reduce the time of development and coordination of such programs. So far, it takes about two years to prepare the concept and to draft the program. We understand that this is too long. So we are working on this,” Sergei Chizhik noted.
