Belarus, Rosatom to cooperate in logistics matters to facilitate trade

Belarus, Rosatom to cooperate in logistics matters to facilitate trade

MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) –  The Belarusian logistics operator Beltamozhservice and Belarus’ office of Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation - Rusatom Bel LLC - have signed a memorandum of partnership and strategic cooperation on the sidelines of the Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The agreement is aimed at boosting trade between the parties, facilitating cargo transportation, attracting new cargo flows, as well as ensuring uninterrupted and high-quality transportation.

"The Rosatom State Corporation is one of the largest integrators in the logistics sector. We started out with nuclear icebreakers, after that we became the operator of the Northern Sea Route, and then we started managing major assets, which allows us to use this new transport corridor. The agreement with Beltamozhservice, which is Belarus’ largest state-owned operator of logistics services, is designed to speed up information exchange while transporting goods along the Northern Sea Route. This will help Belarus cut costs and enter new markets. The Northern Sea Route is the shortest transportation corridor into Southeast Asia. More than that, we ensure logistics sovereignty, as we do not use the transport infrastructure of unfriendly countries," said Rusatom Bel LLC Director Stanislav Levitsky.

According to him, the volume of goods has not yet been determined. It will be later established by contracts between the parties. "The Rosatom country office primarily seeks to act as a single communication link between the Russian and Belarusian sides, which is expected to facilitate interaction. Beltamozhservice knows who to interact with on specific projects along specific transport routes," the director of the country office noted.

He clarified that the matter is about the ports of Arkhangelsk and Murmansk. “This is what concerns the Northern Sea Route. Rosatom operates logistics business throughout Russia. This is not only sea transportation, but also container and rail. There are also ports in the Far East. We can also offer all these to the Belarusian side. Another promising topic is the development of end-to-end digital transport corridors, and we will discuss it with our colleagues. The document we signed today covers all aspects of cooperation. We are set to accelerate trade turnover. Time is the most valuable resource. The faster the turnover of goods is, the faster enterprises receive revenue and can invest in new business," Stanislav Levitsky emphasized.

Director General of Beltamozhservice Dmitry Kovalenok noted that the memorandum will help with new transport and logistics solutions to optimize the costs of Belarusian enterprises when exporting products to non-CIS countries, which will increase the transport attractiveness of Belarus. According to him, Belarus is interested in road, rail, and multimodal transportation (railway, and then sea route). Among the interesting destinations for Belarus are China, Vietnam, Indonesia and others.

Beltamozhservice is a national logistics operator. Established by Belarus’ State Customs Committee in 1999, the company has the status of a customs representative, customs carrier, stock exchange and air broker, is an authorized economic operator of the highest category (type III), the owner of warehouse complexes, a trader, a national operator for tracking international transportation using navigation seals. It acts as an importer and exporter of goods, has experience in the use of digital technologies.

The State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom is a multi-industry holding company which comprises assets in power engineering, machine building, and construction. Its strategy is to develop low-carbon generation, including wind power. ROSATOM is the national leader in power generation (accounting for about 20% of the country's total output) and ranks first globally in terms of order portfolio for construction of NPPs (39 power units, inter alia 6 SMRs, in 10 countries). Rosatom is the only company in the world that has all technologies of the nuclear fuel cycle, from uranium mining to the back end of nuclear facilities life cycles. Its scope of activities also includes production of innovative non-nuclear products, nuclear medicine, digitalization and software development, logistics and development of the Northern Sea Route. Rosatom incorporates over 450 enterprises employing a total of more than 350,000 people.
