MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) - Belarus is planning to set up a trading house in Sakhalin Oblast of Russia, Belarusian Minister of Agriculture and Food Leonid Zayats said as he met with Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kozhemyako, BelTA has learnt.

“We want to set up a trading house, which will sell products of our food processing industry and also goods made by our light industry, woodworking and furniture companies. We are willing to deliver everything that residents of Sakhalin Oblast might need,” the minster said.

Leonid Zayats said that the trade between Belarus and Sakhalin Oblast exceeded RUB1 billion. “We have already delivered 56 units of agricultural machinery and more than 150 tonnes of seed potatoes,” he said. Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kozhemyako stressed that next year the region plans to use Belarusian seed potatoes only.

Belarusian specialists are building a dairy farm for 1,000 head in Sakhalin Oblast, more than half to be purchased in Belarus. Belarusians are also implementing a project to build an agro-town. First houses are to be commissioned by the end of 2016. The project provides for a total of 50 houses.

During the meeting in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, six documents were signed to intensify cooperation between Belarus and Sakhalin Oblast.

Among them are two cooperation agreements: with the research center for mechanization of agriculture at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to deliver three potato-sorting lines worth €721,000. The other cooperation agreement was signed with Minsk Tractor Works to supply 50 tractors. In addition, the contracts were signed with Lidagroprommash, Belkommunmash, Bobruiskagromash and MAZ-Kupava.
