MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – Belarus will continue to pay for Russian gas using the ‘price of gas on the Yamal Peninsula’ formula in 2017 until the gas issue is completely settled, Belarusian Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik told reporters ahead of a meeting of the Energy Ministry board on 24 February, BelTA has learned.
“This year, we are paying the price calculated using the ‘Yamal Peninsula gas price’ formula,” Vladimir Potupchik said. The formula includes the gas price for Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and some other expenses.
In discussing the gas issue, Belarus insists on compliance with the norms laid down in the EEU Treaty. These, first of all, include the creation of equal conditions for the economic entities of all the members of the union. Based on this, Belarus hopes for a maximum unification of the gas prices in the Eurasian Economic Union.
