Belarus opens 19 production facilities as part of innovative program in 2018
MINSK, 25 January (BelTA) – Nineteen new production facilities were commissioned and 94 innovative projects were implemented in Belarus in 2018 in line with the state innovative development program, BelTA learned from Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology Alexander Shumilin.
Belarusian scientists developed a new integrated circuit packaging technology to be used in production of industrial, special-purpose and dual-purpose goods. They also worked on the establishment of a high-tech innovation and manufacturing cluster specializing in sophisticated medical equipment, security systems, and non-destructive testing equipment. Work was underway to set up high-tech centers, and create infrastructure to provide medical services to children with surgical diseases.
The State Committee on Science and Technology teamed up with the Education Ministry and local authorities to improve innovative infrastructure in order to facilitate promotion and practical application of outputs of research. “The extensive network of the innovative infrastructure facilities incorporates 15 technology parks and nine technology transfer centers. Technology parks were set up in absolutely all the oblast capitals, as well as in major district capitals, like Pinsk, Novopolotsk, and Gorky. There are plans to open technology parks in Borisov, Bobruisk and Orsha,” Alexander Shumilin said.
The State Committee on Science and Technology is actively forging international partnerships in technology and innovation. In 2018 Belarus’ sci-tech solutions were on display at 12 international expos. The exhibition activities resulted in contracts and pre-contract arrangements to supply science-intensive and high-tech products made in Belarus to the tune of over $8 million.
According to the State Committee on Science and Technology, innovative products accounted for 18.6% of all exports by the manufacturing industry in 2018, or 2.6 percentage points above the plan. In January-November 2018 high-tech and science-intensive products accounted for over 33% of Belarus’ total exports, which is also above the plan.
