Belarus, Nicaragua sign agreement on export loans

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) - A number of bilateral documents were signed following the talks between Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik and Nicaraguan Minister of Foreign Affairs Denis Moncada Colindres in Minsk on 19 May, BelTA has learned.

Representatives of the two countries signed a general intergovernmental agreement on export loans and an agreement on cooperation in education. A basic loan agreement was also signed during the visit of the Nicaraguan foreign minister.

“The general agreement between the two governments on the provision of export loans and the basic agreement, which opens up opportunities for industrial cooperation, will help us significantly increase supplies of Belarusian machinery which is in demand in Nicaragua,” Sergei Aleinik said.

The agreement on cooperation in education is designed to provide a legal basis for the development of interaction and establishment of working contacts between educational institutions and training specialists in the professions that are most in demand in Nicaragua.

According to the minister, Belarus and Nicaragua intend to further develop the bilateral legal framework. For example, the countries are now working on draft agreements on trade and economic cooperation, promotion and mutual protection of investments, establishment of a joint committee on trade and economic cooperation, as well as on the abolition of visa requirements.

During the talks, Sergei Aleinik stressed that Belarus and Nicaragua are aimed at a serious intensification of political interstate dialogue and trade and economic cooperation.

“In economic terms, we are primarily talking about the development of industrial cooperation, the use of Belarusian agricultural technologies in the development of Nicaraguan agriculture, and the supply of passenger and road construction equipment to the Nicaraguan market,” the minister said.
