Belarus named Latvia’s second largest parter in rail freight transport

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – Belarus is Latvia’s second largest parter in rail freight transport, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belarus to Latvia Vasily Markovich told BelTA.

“I would like to spotlight the cooperation between the two countries in transportation and logistics because Belarus is Latvia’s second largest parter in rail freight transport. Last year, the volume of export goods amounted to 12.6 million tonnes while the total Belarus-Latvia freight traffic reached 30.1 million tonnes,” the Ambassador said.

Vasily Markovich also lauded the joint Zubr container train going between the Baltic Sea ports and the Black Sea ports along the regular route Tallinn-Riga-Minsk-Odessa/Illichevsk.

The Belarusian Ambassador to Latvia highlighted a considerable potential for development of bilateral cooperation in the services sector, particularly in the ICT sector, which has been steadily growing in the two countries, and the positive momentum of bilateral trade over the past years.
