Belarus makes progress in Global Innovation Index 2020

MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) - Belarus ranked 64th in the Global Innovation Index 2020, up eight places from 2019 and 22 places from 2018, BelTA learned from the report posted on the website of the Global Innovation Index.

Belarus has demonstrated growth in a group of indicators reflecting the practical results of innovations in the production sector. Belarus was ranked the highest in Human Capital and Research (37th place), Infrastructure (46th place), and Knowledge and Technological Output (58th place).

The Global Innovation Index report was prepared by the World Intellectual Property Organization in collaboration with Cornell University (USA) and INSEAD Business School. Against the backdrop of a decline in innovation in traditional sectors of the economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the report identified health, information technology and e-commerce as new areas for effective innovation.

The report contains a rating of innovation activities in 131 countries on 80 indicators, including infrastructure development, business environment, and quality of education. The top ten countries include Switzerland, Sweden, USA, the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Singapore, Germany and South Korea.
