Belarus, Latvia to step up cooperation in transport

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Latvia will step up their cooperation in transport. Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Kalinin and Latvian Economy Minister Arvils Aseradens reached such an agreement on 10 November, BelTA has learned.

“We need to find common interests with our neighboring countries, first of all in cross-border cooperation and infrastructure projects. The infrastructure – roads, border crossings – should facilitate the movement of people and goods between our countries,” Anatoly Kalinin noted. He said that plans have been made to sign agreements between the Latvian Ministry of Transport and the Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communications in the near future.

Anatoly Kalinin also pointed out that the trade between the two countries is not as high as it could be. He added that Belarus and Latvia have potential to boost it. “Every meeting will give an impetus to our cooperation. We are ready to discuss any matter,” he said.

For his part, Arvils Aseradens noted that Belarus and Latvia maintain an active political dialogue. “The goal of this visit is to increase our mutual trade. All the events play an important role in this,” he added.
