Belarus, Kenya discuss supplies of tractors, potash fertilizers

Belarus, Kenya discuss supplies of tractors, potash fertilizers

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) - Kenya is interested in supplying tractors and potash fertilizers from Belarus, Kenyan Minister of Trade, Investment and Industry Moses Kuria told the media, BelTA has learned.

Moses Kuria praised Belarus’ successes in industrialization and mechanization of agriculture.

“Kenya, like Belarus, is a big agricultural country, but with its own differences. I should note that we have no problems with food, but we have problems with its storage. Even though we harvest twice a year, we lose a lot of food after harvesting. We also have a lot of small farmers, not big farms. One more problem is the small percentage of cultivated land,” the minister of trade, industry and investment said.

According to him, many areas of cooperation between the countries were agreed upon during the meeting with Belarusian representatives.

“First of all, we are interested in mechanization of agriculture in Kenya and, accordingly, in increasing its efficiency. We would also like to study the experience of Belarus in this sector. We also discussed possible joint projects that would be beneficial to both parties,” said the minister of trade, industry and investment of Kenya. “We are in need of the supply of tractors and means of agricultural mechanization, as well as means for processing products. Belarus is one of the world leaders in the production of potash fertilizers, so it is also an important area for us.”

On 7 June, a Kenyan delegation led by Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment Moses Kuria and Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development Mithika Linturi visited the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry to discuss cooperation in agriculture.
