Belarus’ Industry Ministry sees export potential in cooperation with Asia, Africa, Latin America

Belarus’ Industry Ministry sees export potential in cooperation with Asia, Africa, Latin America

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) - The Belarusian industry produces internationally competitive goods. Products of the metallurgical complex, machinery, equipment and vehicles are in high demand, First Deputy Industry Minister Aleksandr Ogorodnikov said in an interview to the Economy of Belarus magazine, BelTA has learned.

“Some markets are closed for the Belarusian industrial enterprises. This is a large part of the world market, but a fairly moderate area on a global scale. Belarusian exporters have not yet sufficiently developed the markets of many countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America. Here we see a great potential for mutually beneficial cooperation. Expanding ties with friendly countries is a key factor for the development of the Belarusian industry,” the first deputy industry minister said.

The Belarusian industrial enterprises have reoriented their main sales, first of all, to the markets of Russia, the CIS, as well as those foreign countries (Africa, Asia, and Latin America) that do not support the sanctions policy of the collective West.

In 2022, the enterprises affiliated with the Industry Ministry increased exports by 15.3% compared with 2021. The Russian Federation accounted for the largest share (85%, the growth of more than 150%) in Belarus’ total volume of deliveries to foreign markets.

A good example of active cooperation in the export of Belarusian industrial products is the sales of automotive, agricultural and cargo machinery to Togo, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and India. Supplies are mainly made through the existing distribution network, which also provides service and warranty support for machinery, or directly to the end user.

“This year the industry plans to expand on all fronts. We have both the product and the market to do this. In January 2023 the industrial output increased by 5%, exports went up by almost 8%. This shows that consumers like our products, they are ready to buy them,” Aleksandr Ogorodnikov said.
