MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) - According to the preliminary data, Belarus' gold and foreign currency reserves totaled $7,442.4 billion as of 1 August 2021, BelTA learned from the Information and PR Department of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.

In July 2021, the country's gold and foreign currency reserves went up by $33 million (by 0.4%) following the June decrease of $353.7 million (4.6%).

“The increase in the volume of the gold and foreign exchange reserves in July 2021 was mainly due to the purchase of foreign currency by the National Bank via the Belarusian Currency Stock Exchange, the foreign currency budget revenue and also the increase in the cost of monetary gold,” the central bank said.

In July 2021 the government and the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus honored the foreign and domestic obligations in foreign currency in the amount of about $427 million.

According to the country's monetary guidelines for 2021, the volume of international reserve assets is expected to make up at least $6 billion on 1 January 2022.
