Belarus, Georgia sign contracts worth $4m

TBILISI, 22 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Georgia signed five contracts estimated at a total of $4 million during the Belarus-Georgia business forum in Tbilisi, BelTA has learned.

The cooperation avenues covered by the contracts include mechanical engineering, petrochemical industry and food production.

During the Belarus-Georgia business forum in TbilisiRepresentatives of 42 Belarusian companies arrived in Tbilisi to attend the forum. Over 200 Georgian companies are taking part in the event. They represent the pharmaceutical industry, food industry, agriculture, mechanical engineering, and wood processing. The Belarusian delegation informed their Georgian counterparts about Belarus’ economic potential, export promotion instruments, the terms of doing business in the country considering Belarus’ membership at the Eurasian Economic Union. The presentation was followed by tasting of Belarusian food products.

During the Belarus-Georgia business forum in TbilisiChairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Mikhail Myatlikov noted that Tbilisi will host a series of meetings on 22 April, including those with representatives of retail chains. Belarus’ delegation hopes that the meetings will result in new contracts to supply Belarusian foodstuffs to Georgia.

Georgia ranks 57th among 170 trading partners of Belarus. Mikhail Myatlikov believes that the current level of cooperation greatly lags behind its true potential. He expects that the bilateral trade might increase twice at the very minimum during the year. Georgia is interested in Belarusian pharmaceutical products, furniture, and building materials. However, it is industrial cooperation that will be the locomotive of the bilateral cooperation, the BCCI Chairman added.
