Belarus' GDP projected to expand by 1.8% in H1 2019

Belarus' GDP projected to expand by 1.8% in H1 2019

MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) -  Belarus' GDP is projected to expand by 1.8% in H1 2019, Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The GDP increased by 1.4% in January-April. This is in line with the projections of the government. The economy adds every month. We are set to have the GDP growth at 1.8% in H1,” Sergei Rumas noted.

He noted that the head of state criticized the work of the government for the slow pace of export growth. “So far we have not yet able to reach last year's figures. Despite the fact that the balance of trade is better than last year, the government will have to take additional measures to compensate for the lagging,” the prime minister said.

In Q1 Belarus was not able to ensure the optimal structure of export: 30% for Russia, the EU and distant-arc countries each. “The share of export to the Eurasian union still dominates. When working on the export promotion measures, we will also examine the export commodity structure and country diversification,” he added.
