MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko presided over a meeting of the organizing committee for the national exposition at EXPO 2020 in Dubai, the UAE, BelTA has learned.

"Today we have convened for the final meeting of the organizing committee for the national exposition at EXPO 2020 in Dubai, which will start this week. We will hear our reports from all interested parties about the readiness of our companies, enterprises, organizations and ministries to showcase the country's economic, cultural, social, scientific, educational and medical potential in Dubai," Igor Petrishenko said.

According to the deputy prime minister, the national pavilion will open in a test mode on 28 September. "A few days after the opening ceremony, we will hold the Days of Vitebsk Oblast (4 October), then the city of Minsk (3 November) and Minsk Oblast (10 December). Our two major concerns – Belgospishcheprom food industry concern and Belneftekhim oil industry concern - will showcase their economic potential too,” he stated. “We are also actively preparing for the National Day of Belarus, which is scheduled for 22 November and which will incorporate a Belarusian investment forum, a joint business forum with the business community of the UAE. Today we will outline specific ways to increase mutual trade and investments. Presentations of Brest, Grodno, Mogilev and Gomel regions will be held next year."

The deputy prime minister expressed the opinion that all domestic companies will approach the event in a responsible way, will fittingly represent the country, and will conclude investment and business contracts. "We hope to attract investors from the UAE and also other countries that will be featured at EXPO 2020. We hope that enterprises will go to Dubai with attractive investment projects and will succeed in attracting investments in the economy of our country," he stressed.

The Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone, the free economic zone Bremino Group and other domestic companies will present their investment potential at EXPO 2020.

"We hope that such a major event, which was postponed due to the pandemic, will finally take place. I think this is a great opportunity for us to step up interaction and trade with the countries of the Persian Gulf, in particular the UAE, and other countries that will take part in EXPO 2020," Igor Petrishenko summed up.

The World Expo has been held every five years since 1851. Expo 2020 will be hosted by Dubai and will be the first world expo held in the region of Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The event will be running from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. The motto of the upcoming edition is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. So far, 192 countries have confirmed their participation in Expo 2020. The event is expected to draw 25 million visitors, with 70% of them not from the UAE.
