MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – In 2018 Belarus’ exports to Latvia surged by 38.8% to $485.6 million, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belarus to Latvia Vasily Markovich told BelTA.
According to the head of the diplomatic mission, Belarus’ major exports to Latvia are timber products, petroleum, petrochemistry, and steel products, fertilizers, insulated wires and cables, construction materials and beverages. “Belarus’ exports to Latvia includes around 440 product groups. Latvia exports lo Belarus medicines, equipment, food products, clothing and fabrics,” Vasily Markovich.
The diplomat noted that Latvian consumers are very well familiar with the Belarusian brands. Among them are Belarus tractors, Kommunarka and Spartak candies, Bielita-Vitex cosmetic,s Svitanak clothing and knitwear, Marko and Belwest footwear. the Latvian companies are active users of the electronic platform of the Belarus Universal Commodity Exchange to purchase Belarusian timber, metal products, agricultural products and other goods. The customer base of the BUCE accredited office in Latvia includes more than 350 companies, the Ambassador said.
Last year the trade between Belarus and Latvia totaled $582.7 million, up by 32.9% over 2017. Import of Latvian products rose by almost 10% to $97.1 million in 2018.
