Belarus’ export of civil engineering services at $440m in 2022

Belarus’ export of civil engineering services at $440m in 2022

MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – Belarus exported $440 million worth of civil engineering services in 2022, setting a new record high since 2016, BelTA learned from Belarusian Architecture and Construction Minister Ruslan Parkhamovich.

Ruslan Parkhamovich remarked that 2022 was a complicated year for all branches of the national economy, including civil engineering. This is why performance targets were missed.

The official said: “Yes, criticism targeting the civil engineering industry is absolutely justified. The volume of contract work last year did not reach the figure registered the year before that or last year’s target. As of late 2022 our performance was at 88.6-88.7% as against 2021. It is clearly not enough.”

Ruslan Parkhamovich explained that the volume of construction and installation work in Belarus dropped due to a decrease in investments. “Their rate is even lower – 81%,” he remarked.

In order to keep Belarusian contractors busy, the civil engineering industry was told to focus on exporting construction services. “This is why the growth rate of the volume of contract work rose by 170% last year. By 150% in housing construction. The volume of export reached $440 million which is the highest figure on record since 2016. It was back then that Belarus implemented major projects to build industrial facilities abroad [in particular, the Garlyk mining and processing complex in Turkmenistan]. We have a more versatile choice of objects now. But we are working on keeping construction enterprises busy either inside or outside the country. Securing decent salaries is the main target,” the minister stated.
