MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – On 11 March the Council of Ministers of Belarus adopted Resolution No. 166 to amend its earlier Resolution No. 213 as of 9 April 2021 "On the comprehensive program to promote electric transport in 2021-2025". The new document was officially published on the National Legal Internet Portal on 14 March.
The document points out that as of 1 January 2024, Belorusneft ran a network of 690 EV charging stations. Of these, 432 EV charging stations were located in Minsk Oblast and the capital city, 55 stations operated in Brest Oblast, 48 in Vitebsk Oblast, 58 in Gomel Oblast, 62 in Grodno Oblast, 35 in Mogilev Oblast.
The resolution regulates the process to set up companies making passenger electric vehicles. There is a chapter there that reads: the United Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has achieved certain results in its R&D work in the field of electric vehicles and their basic components in 2017-2022. In particular, scientific and engineering competences have been built and methods for designing power electronics for EV and basic components have been mastered taking into account the technological capabilities of domestic enterprises. Design documentation has also been developed using these techniques, and various types of power electronics have been manufactured and assessed via bench-scale testing and testing in vehicles.
It is pointed out that modern automotive industry relies on the use of appropriate platforms - a set of basic components, standard design and technological solutions, which reduces the product development cost. This approach can be used for mass production of domestic electric vehicles by developing a universal platform for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, the document reads.
It is advisable for Belarus to consider two potential areas for the development of the automotive industry - an electric car and a hybrid vehicle. The most promising of them is creating production facilities based on mass-produced passenger cars.
The resolution determines how the activities of the program will be financed (within the framework of government programs set to run in 2021 - 2025). The document comes into force after its official publication and applies to relations formalized starting from 15 April 2021.
