MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Deputy Economy Minister Dmitry Yaroshevich told reporters on 27 November about the main areas of focus of Belarus’ Social and Economic Development Program for 2021-2025, BelTA has learned.

“We keep working on medium-term systemic measures that will be the basis for the Social and Economic Development Program for 2021-2025. At the same time, work is underway on the mechanisms for achieving our goals. This will be done, first of all, through state programs (25 projects are now being discussed and reconciled) and the program of government activities that will provide for a change in the institutional environment with a view to improving the living conditions of our citizens,” Dmitry Yaroshevich said.

The program will include several sections. “Traditionally, the social section is one of the key ones. It includes matters that concern all citizens: incomes, prices, quality and accessibility of healthcare and education. The program will also seek to improve the investment climate and business environment. Special emphasis will be placed on the public sector, as we are determined to resolve some persistent problems as soon as possible. Thus, the main areas of focus are social benefits, efficiency of the public sector, encouragement of business initiatives, and ways to raise foreign investment,” the deputy minister noted.

According to him, taking part in drafting mid-term plans are not only government officials, but also business unions, experts from international organizations, independent economists, and the scientific community. In November, the Economy Research Institute of the Economy Ministry held a series of round tables to discuss the Social and Economic Development Program for 2021-2025. There are plans to discuss the program at dialogue platforms. “After that the program will be discussed at the Belarusian People's Congress. I think more proposals will be submitted. All of them will be analyzed and taken on board and then forwarded to the head of state for approval,” Dmitry Yaroshevich added.
