Belarus’ economy minister: Current situation is a challenge for new opportunities

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) - The current situation is a challenge for new opportunities, Belarus’ Economy Minister Aleksandr Chervyakov said as he met with Charge d'Affaires of the Serbian embassy in Belarus Aleksandar Crevar on 17 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Economy Ministry.

The parties discussed trade and economic relations and prospects of further long-term cooperation.

“Serbia is a key partner of Belarus in the Balkan Peninsula. We already have points of contact that need to be scaled up. They are, for example, trade cooperation, investments and the social sector. Belarus has a lot to offer to investors, including an attractive working legislation, special preferential regimes, FEZs, the Great Stone Park, and many other things. Businesses that are willing to invest in our country are important to us. We always welcome and help such investors. The current situation is a challenge for new opportunities, when the emerging restrictions become an impetus for more active diversification of markets, import substitution, and search for new partners,” said Aleksandr Chervyakov.

The parties discussed the possibilities to increase trade between the two countries, set up joint ventures, and promote industrial cooperation.

The focus during the meeting was made on promising sectors of interaction: IT sector, agro-industrial complex, transport, woodworking, and food industry.

The meeting was held in a constructive and respectful manner and demonstrated the willingness of the parties to further cooperation.
