Belarus eager to increase trade turnover with Georgia

MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – Belarus intends to increase the volume of trade with Georgia. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the statement during expanded-participation negotiations with Georgia President Giorgi Margvelashvili on 2 March, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Kobyakov remarked that Belarus and Georgia had established close friendly relations. The Belarusian government is ready to shape its economic policy with Georgia taking into account mutual interests. “The Belarusian embassy was opened in Tbilisi last year. We see that contacts have been noticeably invigorated at all levels recently. Your meetings with the Belarusian head of state reaffirm that,” said the Prime Minister.

The bilateral trade turnover is on the rise, yet Belarus and Georgia are capable of much more. “The potential of our relations allows us to noticeably add to the trade turnover,” believes Andrei Kobyakov.

In turn, Georgia President Giorgi Margvelashvili stated that his country is strongly interested in cooperation with Belarus. “We are delighted by Belarus’ accomplishments in many spheres — the development of high technologies, agriculture,” noted Giorgi Margvelashvili. “We’ve discussed it with the Belarus president in detail and see great opportunities for working together.”
