Belarus' Development Bank explores opportunities for promoting Belarus' trade with Africa

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – The Development Bank of th Republic of Belarus is exploring opportunities for increasing Belarusian trade with African countries, BelTA has learned from the bank’s press service.

Chairman of the Board of the Development Bank Sergei Stolyarchuk is on a working visit to Maputo, Mozambique. The opening ceremony of the annual general meeting of shareholders of TDB Group was held with the participation of Mozambique Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane. The meeting summarized the results of work for 2023 and elected the governing bodies.

The Development Bank of Belarus has been cooperating with the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank Group (TDB Group) for more than five years. The Pan-African institute is actively engaged in financing regional development, implementing infrastructure projects, servicing trade flows between the countries of the region to maintain food and energy security, implementing renewable energy and industrial projects, and promoting export.

Sergei Stolyarchuk participated in the shareholders' meeting and the meeting of the Governing Board of TDB Group and also held a number of business meetings to discuss opportunities for increasing exports of Belarusian products to Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Ghana and other African countries.

During the negotiations with President and Managing Director of TDB Group Admassu Tadesse, Sergei Stolyarchuk noted that Belarus, as before, is interested in joint mutually beneficial projects with the African countries. "I am confident that increased cooperation will make it possible to achieve significant results in the economic relations between Belarus and the African countries," Sergei Stolyarchuk said.

It was noted at the meeting that Belarusian products are in great demand in Africa. Their high quality and affordable price are among the most important factors that determine the positive prospects for economic cooperation between the countries.

The banks are focused on gradual growth of trade and  mutually beneficial projects. TDB Group and Development Bank already have successfully realized projects on delivery of various agricultural products and equipment to Africa. There is a significant potential for cooperation.

The talks in the Ministry of Finance of Zimbabwe focused on the supply of Belarusian goods and the implementation of joint projects.

Cooperation with Zimbabwe is in the spotlight of the Belarusian government. Belarusian products have already been delivered to the African country with the participation of the Development Bank. Belarus and Zimbabwe are interested in further cooperation that has great prospects.

"Africa is a region with huge potential and lots of natural resources. African countries are developing quite rapidly. It can be observed today that large economies are lining up to enter the African market. Belarus is known in African countries as a reliable and promising partner that builds international cooperation on equal footing. Belarus offers the countries mutually beneficial projects that are not only helpful to the Belarusian economy but are also useful to partners," the Development Bank stated.
