Belarus described as important partner of Turkmenistan

ASHGABAT, 31 May (BelTA) – Belarus is an important partner for Turkmenistan, BelTA learned from Maksat Babayev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Deputy Chairman of the Energy Charter Conference.

Belarus and Turkmenistan successfully implement joint projects and exchange high and top-level visits. As a positive example of cooperation Maksat Babayev mentioned the joint construction of the Garlyk mining and processing factory. Maksat Babayev said he sees great prospects for Belarus-Turkmenistan cooperation across the board.

Turkmenistan is the chairman of the Energy Charter in 2017. An Ashgabat forum is scheduled to take place on 30-31 May as part of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship. As the chairman Turkmenistan is intent on implementing an energy policy based on principles of comprehensive modernization of the fuel and energy complex and the diversification of routes of energy deliveries to global markets.

During the forum it was noted that the production and extraction of fuel and energy resources has increased considerably in Turkmenistan in the last few years. Ways used to transport energy resources are being vigorously diversified. Turkmenistan’s role in energy deliveries to the global market is growing more and more pronounced. According to the Energy Charter administration, Turkmenistan is intent on building a reliable architecture for global energy security on principles of justice and the balance of interests of all countries — producers, transit countries, and consumers.

Representatives of the countries, which took part in the forum, and international experts drew attention to the problem of ensuring energy security on the global scale, including bearing in mind the overall environmental situation in the world. Both sides agreed that in order to ensure global energy security, a comprehensive approach is needed as well as the development of a political format for mutual relations and a mechanism to enable organizational conditions for systemic, professional discussions of the entire spectrum of energy matters. The strict observance of international norms and standards is crucial to implementing large-scale projects meant to ensure global energy security. The ecological aspect must be a priority. This is why Turkmenistan fully recognizes responsibility due to its chairmanship of the Energy Charter.

Thus, the capital of Turkmenistan has once again become an international discussion venue where most important prospects of development of the global market of energy resources are being determined, where the latest technologies are worked out and introduced, where ways of development of the oil and gas industry on the global scale are considered. All the topics discussed during the Ashgabat forum are important from the point of view of implementation of China’s One Belt, One Road initiative by many countries, including Belarus.
