Belarus’ Customs encourages private companies to more actively use domestic logistics hubs

Belarus’ Customs encourages private companies to more actively use domestic logistics hubs

MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) – The State Customs Committee would like to draw attention of the private sector to the availability of a well-developed network of transport and logistics hubs in the country and encourages private companies to more actively use the hubs’ services. Chairman of the State Customs Committee Yuri Senko made the statement after meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 5 October, BelTA has learned.

The redirection of Belarusian cargoes from the direction of the Baltic states to the Russian one was discussed during the meeting among other things.

Yuri Senko said that a lot of things can be done in Belarus. In particular, he mentioned the services that Belarusian private companies are accustomed to buying in Lithuania and Poland. Transport and logistics hubs are available in Belarus. They can provide various services relating to merchandise storage, fulfillment, labelling, and sorting. “All of these operations are possible. These processes are regulated by the legislation,” the official said.

In his words, prices for services of Belarusian logistics hubs are acceptable. Many services are even cheaper than those in the European Union. “This is why they should use the advantages that have been created,” Yuri Senko is convinced.

Belarus’ Customs expects the central state budget to earn over Br8 billion in duties and fees. He mentioned that tax adjustments in the oil extraction industry in Russia – the so-called tax maneuver – had reduced proceeds from export duties in Belarus. The other payments – VAT, excise duties, and duties paid by natural persons – are on the rise, he noted.

BelTA reported earlier that during the meeting with Chairman of the State Customs Committee Yuri Senko Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave instructions to more actively utilize the country’s transport and logistics hubs.
