MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) - The Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Cuba are working to expand trade line-up, the Belarusian Embassy in Havana told BelTA on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations which was celebrated on April 16.
In 2022-2023 the parties maintained a high level of bilateral cooperation. It is based on the political will of the leadership of both countries and the similarity of positions on the entire range of issues on the international agenda, which is confirmed by mutual support in the UN. The interest in building a strategic partnership was also confirmed during the Belarusian-Cuban political consultations held in June 2022 at the level of deputy foreign ministers, the embassy said.
Belarusian-Cuban contacts have noticeably intensified in various areas. The parties exchanged visits of parliamentary delegations, delegations representing the manufacturing industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, finance and banking, and education. The Belarusian-Cuban intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation resumed work after a long hiatus. Its working groups outlined a number of promising areas of cooperation. Nevertheless, the dynamics of trade and economic relations is somewhat lagging behind. Belarus’ major exports are traditionally agricultural machinery and components, medical equipment and milk powder. Cuba’s major exports are medicines, rum, coffee.
"The parties are working to expand the range of supplies in order to bring the pace of trade in line with the high level of political ties," the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus noted.
