MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Cuba are interested in deepening cooperation between pharmaceutical companies, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez, BelTA reports.
As the speaker noted, Belarus-Cuba cooperation in healthcare is on the up. “On 27 February, I met with Cuba’s delegation led by first deputy minister of public health. The visit resulted in a decision to draft a new cooperation agreement between the healthcare ministries. We would like to see more partnerships between Belarusian and Cuban pharmaceutical companies, and we would like to deliver Belarusian medicines to Cuba,” said Natalya Kochanova.
Belarus and Cuba have forged new academic partnerships. “There was an exchange of visits by leading educational and scientific institutions. An extensive package of agreements was signed as a result of the first forum of Belarusian and Cuban rectors. We invite higher education institutions of the two countries to take part in competitions of joint scientific and technical projects in priority areas of bilateral cooperation. Contacts between technology parks run by leading institutions of higher learning of our countries also hold a lot of promise,” the speaker noted.
“Belarus-Cuba cooperation in culture, sports and tourism is also our priority. The visa waiver has facilitated business contacts and tourist flows. The next important step, which could help intensify contacts in all directions, is the launch of regular flights between Belarus and Cuba,” added Natalya Kochanova.
