MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Belgium plans to set up a joint export agency. The relevant memorandum of understanding was signed at the Economy Ministry on 20 March, BelTA has learned.
The company with its headquarters in Belgium will play the role of a strategic partner for Belgian and other European companies interested in doing business in Belarus and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union as well as for Belarusian companies and investors in their advancement to the Belgian and other European markets.
The document was signed by director of the Research Economic Institute of the Economy Ministry of Belarus Alexander Chervyakov and director of the National Center of Marketing and Pricing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Boris Smilkin. On Belgium’s behalf the document was inked by TSE Agency Director General Etienne Vauthier who represents a group of Belgian businessmen speaking in favor of the implementation of the project.
The project will be supported by the Wallonia Export and Investment Agency Awex (Belgium).
The signing ceremony was attended by Economy Minister of Belarus Vladimir Zinovsky and Belgium’s Ambassador to Belarus (with residence in Moscow) Alex Van Meeuwen.
Greeting the Belgian side, Vladimir Zinovsky outlined the working formula for the joint company: “First of all, it is the development of demand trends on the European and other markets, and here we count on the help of our Belgian partners. Secondly, it is the study of the export potential of Belarusian companies, and here we rely on our science. Thirdly, it is the proper logistics and efficient sales skills.” The minister expressed confidence that the consortium would be a good example of public-private partnership for the implementation of the government’s priority goals.
