MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – Businessmen of Belarus and Austria speak in favor of developing economic cooperation in the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko told the media after the meeting of the Belarusian-Austrian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation on 19 March, BelTA has learned.
“The business communities of the two countries favor a return to the idea of developing the common economic space from Lisbon to Vladivostok,” Oleg Kravchenko said.
He added that the parties, however, see that the implementation of this idea is unrealistic because of the current political situation in the region. “Nevertheless, the Austrian business views important to establish dialogue between the European Commission and the Eurasian Economic Commission. This is what we are advocating here, in Belarus,” the deputy minister said.
The Austrian part of the intergovernmental commission was led at the meeting by Director General for Foreign Economic Relations of the Federal Ministry of Digitalization and Economic Policy Franz Wessig. In his words, the parties discussed possible investment of Austrian companies in the Belarusian economy, and support from the Austrian government.
On 19 March, Minsk also hosted a meeting of the Austrian-Belarusian Business Council. Businessmen of the two countries met to discuss possible implementation of joint projects in food industry and energy.
