MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) - Belarus is ahead of the United States in terms of treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children, Director of the National Center of Children's Oncology, Hematology and Immunology Olga Aleinikova told the media, BelTA has learned.
According to the latest data on the treatment of this disease released in April 2017, Belarus was ranked 8th among 67 countries. The United States of America was 12th on this list. The leader is Germany that outstrips Belarus by 3%.
Belarus has achieved such great results thanks to a set of measures, including the use of modern medicines. Some 70% of the drugs used in the center are Belarus-made. The center’s specialists constantly raise their qualifications, including abroad. The center has medical science at a high level.
The survival rate of children with cancer in Belarus (regardless of localization and stage) is 72%. According to the calculations to a special formula, this means 50,000 years of saved lives. “This is really a huge success of our country,” Olga Aleinikova said.
Today Minsk hosted a reception to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the National Center of Children's Oncology, Hematology and Immunology.
