Belarus’ Academy of Sciences, Korean institute KISTI to cooperate in IT
MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) have signed a memorandum of cooperation in science and technology, the NASB press service told BelTA.
According to the document, Belarusian and Korean specialists intend to advance cooperation in the area of strategic planning, joint research and development, exchange of visits at the level of top officials and individual scientists, and will keep each other informed about national research projects.
Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov stressed the importance of the memorandum. In particular, he said: “Today we have to convert Belarus into an IT country. It is a program to create a modern digital economy in the Republic of Belarus. Work in the area of information technologies is a high priority for the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. This is why the signing of the memorandum with Korean scientists will open up new prospects for our mutually beneficial cooperation.”
In turn, KISTI President Choi Hee-yoon noted that the signing of the memorandum will become a step to expand cooperation of Belarusian and Korean scientists in the area of information technologies.
During the meeting Vladimir Gusakov talked about accomplishments of Belarusian scientists. In particular, he singled out the development of a personal supercomputer by specialists of the Informatics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. In his words, the institute makes a substantial contribution to digitizing the national healthcare system. Thus, telemedicine systems, solutions for remote diagnostics and consulting are being created for Belarusian healthcare institutions. The scientists are also busy developing an information and query system for managing a healthcare institution. Digital prescriptions have been introduced as well as computer medical charts and many other digital documents. Other R&D products were mentioned as well, including an electronic ticket for school students, a system for identifying and tracking animals and products of animal origin, which has been integrated into the Russian system Mercury. Vladimir Gusakov suggested setting up a joint structure to the Korean partners.
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) is a government-funded research institute designed to ensure maximum effectiveness of R&D efforts and provide support to R&D efforts in the area of high technologies.
