OSTROVETS, 23 August (BelTA) – Some Br2.7 billion has been utilized to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant, Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk told the media on 23 August, BelTA has learned.
He recalled that Russia has opened a $10 billion credit line for the BelNPP construction to cover 90% of the cost of the contracts to build the facility.
The BelNPP is being constructed by Russia. The Russian state-run company Atomstroyexport is the general contractor. Belarus and Russia have signed intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, in the construction of the nuclear power plant, and in nuclear safety.
Speaking about the construction schedule, the deputy minister noted that the plans to commission the first power-generating unit in 2019 and the second one in 2020 have been confirmed by Rosatom.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast.
