MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – Cooperation in economy between Belarus and Iran has a huge potential, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus Alireza Sanei told the media following a meeting with Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova, BelTA has learned.
"Relations between Iran and Belarus, both economically and politically, are at a very good level. It's a historically good relationship. Aleksandr Lukashenko's visit to Iran in March this year was a turning point in our relations. Following the agreement between our presidents, we will be working to increase the level of our economic relations. We are confident and know that we have a huge potential in economy and can develop cooperation in different avenues," Ambassador Alireza Sanei said.
“The economies of our countries are complementary,” the ambassador noted. "At the moment, we have a very good cooperation in terms of pharmaceuticals, the supply of medicines, oil and petrochemicals, and potash fertilizers from the Republic of Belarus to Iran. We also cooperate in the agricultural sector, the supply of machinery and equipment," he added. “The intergovernmental commission on economic matters will convene for a meeting in Tehran in the coming month. We hope that by the end of this year, which marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, we will witness an even greater increase in mutual trade. To achieve these goals, we are planning a visit of the vice president of Iran to the Republic of Belarus. We are also preparing the ministerial consultations on political matters. The deputy minister of foreign affairs of Iran will arrive for this. Next year we are planning a visit of the president of Iran to the Republic of Belarus."
There are very good relations between our countries in international organizations, the ambassador added. "The countries support each other, especially in the UN, on various issues, including on human rights, sanctions, and the fight against terrorism. We are also partners in various integration associations, including the EAEU. Iran became a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization this year. Belarus will also undergo this procedure soon. There is a very good opportunity for the development of our relations," Ambassador Alireza Sanei stated.
